THE UNDERGROUND'S 10 LEADING LADIES: PULSE MAGAZINE

As new faces continually challenge the status quo, we continually shine a light on those who push harder than the rest.

Once again, we take a look at 10 women leading the charge in the underground. And remember, while today's stars like Maya Jane Coles, Cassy, Nicole Moudaber and Steffi are inspirations to all of dance music, that's not who we are focusing on.

We don't hope to differentiate, only inspire, so that new generations of inspirational female talent continue to foster amongst true club culture.

London newcomer BEC is rapidly making a name for herself with sets at the likes of EGG, Tobacco Dock, Watergate and Destino already under her belt. Her contemporary techno sound sit comfortably alongside the likes of Pan-Pot, Adam Beyer and Nicole Moudaber, with the former already inviting her to play alongside them last year.

When we selected BEC as one of the underground's most exciting newcomers last year, we figured we were on to something. Since then, the Brighton born, Berlin based DJ and producer signed to Pan-Pot’s Second State imprint, while her gig schedule continually picked up pace, with shows at Egg, Kater Blau and [ipsə] in the later part of the year. Though she’s not totally left her day job as a designer, a job flexible enough to keep her creative juices flowing while focusing on finding her sound.

And find it she did — eventually. A year in the making, Rebecca Godfrey will be releasing her debut EP with the Second State imprint this week. Though it wasn't easy.
